How long does bankruptcy affect your grade on a background check from GIS services?

bankruptcy

I am applying for a retail managment position and they sent my information to GIS services. I filed bankruptcy 12/1998. By law is GIS allowed to “fail” me in the background check? Is there a cut-off in years they go back?

  1. It can last up to 10 years.

  2. Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years.

I doubt there are any laws concerning how far back GIS can go to do a background check. Even if the bankruptcy were more than 10 years old, it might be an automatic fail as indicating a lack of financial management ability.

  3. a bankruptcy can stay on your credit for 10 years; however, GIS can “fail” you for any reason they deem necessary. a background check usually goes back to your first job and first line of credit. a healthy background check = no drug use, good working history and a good financial history – so yes, GIS had every right to fail you. sorry.
